Village Update

The village refurbishment is well on the way now, and overall, the traffic has been flowing around the diversion without too much difficulty. The wide pedestrian walkway outside Somerfields store is receiving the footings for benches and hopefully some floral displays. No longer will the white vans be able to mount the kurb and park there. RAINHILL CRIME FIGURES for JULY 2005

For once there was a reduction in house burglaries in Rainhill in July. There were THREE burglaries compared to SIX in May 2005.

Car crime continues to be at a high level though, and with TWO cars stolen (three in May 2005) and SIXTEEN cars broken into (twelve in May 2005), the levels are still very worrying. In summertime, it's easy to forget to re-secure you house/car windows and doors, please don't be a victim. Posted by Picasa

MERSEYFEST IN RAINHILL

Merseyfest is an organisation bringing together the youth of Merseyside with others from further afield. Actively sponsored by the churches and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, projects were recently completed over a week long period.

On Tuesday 16th August, a team arrived to work in Rainhill. St Benedicts Wood, on the old hospital grounds, is a well used area which had become badly overgrown and was in need of a good clear up. Along with local youth volunteers and your local councillors, a team of youth volunteers from Shropshire came to give a helping hand.

Co-ordinated and helped by a large contingent from the Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, a large skip was quickly filled with rubbish and weeds. Everyone was thoroughly enjoying themselves with much banter and joking and a rare quiet period took place when the arrival of Macdonalds food was spotted. No sooner had the food arrived when a fire tender duly pulled up and everyone was given a full demonstration of the workings. Unbelievably soon after, dark plumes of smoke could be seen over the treetops and the fire team departed sirens roaring to assist.

As a finale, everone assisted in the planting of flower seeds at the entrance to the wood and we look forward to seeing them bloom in the future.

The local youths who took part worked really hard and a special thanks must go to them. Please take time out to have a walk in the wood to see their efforts.

All the undergrowth is chopped back and binned, enough to fill a skip. Posted by Picasa

Everyone finds out just how a fire tender works. Notice the dark plooms of smoke behind the trees, soon to be dealt with by our crew. Posted by Picasa

Just after planting the flower seeds, the group get together for a photo before a well earned rest. Posted by Picasa

IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE !!

Merseyside Ambulance Service want to tell you about their "ICE" campaign. The idea is that you store the word ICE in your mobile phone address book and against it enter the number of the person you would want to be contacted "In Case of Emergency", so that hospital and ambulance staff will then be able to quickly contact your next of kin. It's so simple ------ everyone can do it. Pass it on, it could save your life. Posted by Picasa
