Free buses will operate a limited service on routes including 10A, 20A, 92A, 102, 201 and 212 in Liverpool, 110 and 118 in Wirral and the 10A, 24X and 194/195 St Helens Circulars. First buses go from around 12 noon and run until around 6pm-6.30pm.

A limited network of bus services on all major corridors will also run throughout the region on Boxing Day and New Year`s Day, with most services operating from around 10am.

Merseytravel Traveline - 0871 200 22 33 - is also open throughout the holidays except Christmas Day. Opening hours are between 8am and 8pm, except Christmas Eve (7am-6pm), Boxing Day (9am-6pm) and New Year`s Eve (7am-6pm).

STOPPING KIDS BUYING ALCOHOL

Your councillors are constantly being told that Off Licenses are continuing to sell alcohol to under age youths and that Rainhill suffers badly from the behaviour of these intoxicated young members of our community. We continue to press for Off Licenses that sell this alcohol to be harshly dealt with and recently the Police alongside Trading Standards have held two targeted under-age drinking initiatives involving more than a dozen approaches to various off licenses.

We are pleased to report that EVERY OFF LICENSE THAT WAS APPROACHED REFUSED TO SELL ANY ALCOHOL.

Clearly the shops are getting more wise to the attempt by under age youths to buy alcohol and we must now campaign to stop adults from buying alcohol on their behalf.

Grab a Purse Chain - but be quick...!!!

Merseyside Police in St Helens has joined forces with St Helens Council's Safer Communities Team and St Helens Chamber to raise awareness of purse-dipping by handing out free purse chains to the Town's shoppers.

Purse-dipping incidents tend to increase in the run up to Christmas where opportunist thieves take purses and wallets from open shopping bags. The Council's Safer Communities Team and St Helens Chamber has funded over 1300 purse chains which are being distributed by the Town Centre Neighbourhood's Community Support Officers.

Shoppers can also call into St Helens Police Station to collect a chain.
